Lactation Support for Student Parents
Parenting a child while completing your degree can be a rewarding, albeit challenging, endeavor and our office is here to support you on your journey. One of the first choices you make as a new parent is how to feed your baby. If you have chosen to breastfeed or bottlefeed with expressed breastmilk, you may have many questions about how to do this successfully while on campus. Below is some information and resources you may find helpful. If you wish to discuss this information or have questions, please contact our office.
Title IX provides equal educational opportunities for pregnant and parenting students. The following two resources explain your rights as a pregnant and/or parenting student:
- Supporting the Academic Success of Pregnant and Parenting Students Under Title IX
(U.S. Department of Education)
- Your Right to Pump or Breastfeed at College (The Pregnant Scholar)
If you have any questions regarding your rights as a pregnant or parenting student, please contact the Office of Equal Opportunity, 3410 Beardshear Hall, 515 Morrill Road or call (515) 294-7612. You may also wish to visit the Dean of Students Assistance and Outreach Services for additional resources and guidance.
